VISITS to face Cobra are a potential banana skin for any team in Division One North, and Pwllheli were delighted to come away with a hard-earned 23-9 victory.

The home side yet again earned the respect of their high-flying visitors, and Pwllheli will now be looking forward to the return match back at Bodegroes.

After a journey where the team coach was buffeted by gale force winds and rain, it was a pleasant surprise to reach a dry oasis of relative calm at Meifod.

The pitch was in excellent condition and although the match was plagued by strong wind throughout, the standard of skill displayed was a credit to both teams.

Pwllheli played with the wind at their backs in the opening half, and they had the ascendancy in the opening clashes.

They went ahead with a half way line penalty from Osian P Jones on six minutes, and they then piled on the pressure.

Their reward was a try from prop Alwyn Trenholme as Pwllheli’s rolling maul took the forwards over the Cobra line.

Jones then added an excellent touchline conversion to give his side a 10-0 lead.Read the full report in the Dwyfor edition
