LLANYBYDDER notched a comfortable 32-0 home triumph over Llangwm in their re-arranged Division Three West A fixture at Parc OJ, to complete the double over their Pembrokeshire visitors.
Bydder had won 25-3 at Pill Parks last November, and bounced back from a 9-32 loss at Haverfordwest last weekend.
In an entertaining match, well refereed by Gwent official Richard Wilkes, the home team crossed for six tries, with one conversion from full back Llyr Davies.
The home front row of Daf Williams, Steff Bonsall and Twm Adams provided a solid set-piece platform, with young lock pairing Josh Jones and Tomos Evans providing quality line-out ball and showing up well in the loose for the home team.
There was a welcome return from injury for Harri Wilson in the Llanybydder back row, where he was joined by the evergreen Aled Evans, and young Ben Roach.
Rampaging No 8 Evans crossed for two first half tries, with another for right wing Llyr James after a fine backs move to give the home side a 15-0 lead at half -time.
The home side dominated possession in the second period as well, but credit must also go to the makeshift visiting team as they competed for the full 80 minutes.
There were two fine individual tries for Reece Morris, at inside centre, with full back Llyr Davies also crossing, after a fine move involving forwards and backs.
The home coaches were happy with the performance, with a number of young squad members given an opportunity to gain experience. Llanybydder will now entertain Tregaron this Friday at 7.15pm.
Laugharne 52 Cardigan 0
CARDIGAN’s recent improvement in form came to an abrupt halt as they were hammered 52-0 by Division Three West A title chasers Laugharne last weekend.
The young Ceredigion outfit, who had struggled to put a team together early in the season, have managed to turn things around since the end of the year, but were second best on this occasion, and no match for a side with an eye on the title.
The hosts are handily placed just below leaders Lampeter and second-placed St Clears, and they started off very positively with a smart try from Steff Davies.
Matthew Tate added the conversion and also upgraded tries from Tim Jameson and Jack Flanagan. Laugharne pulled further ahead when outside half Mikey Williams sliced through for a touchdown, and the game was all but over by half time with Cardigan 26 points in arrears.
The second half followed a similar pattern, despite the Cardigan pack holding their own. The hosts were able to take full advantage of some very disorganised defensive play from the visitors’ backline, and ran in to score several soft tries.
Jameson added his second try just after the break, and then Steff Davies did likewise, before the floodgates opened with further tries scored by Davies, to complete his hat-trick, and fly half Williams.
Davies added three conversions to complete the scoring and inflict a painful lesson on some of the visiting youngsters.
Cardigan, with seven wins and eight defeats in the league this season, will aim to bounce back when they take on County rivals Tregaron a week on Saturday.
