After two marathons in as many weeks, Aber AC athletes Edward Land and Paul Williams took it easier last weekend and competed in the Newport 10k race.

Paul Williams finished in a great time of 39.06 and third in his age category while Julie Williams finished in a time of 1.10.06. Out of just under 2,000 runners Ed Land finished in a very impressive 29th position with a personal best time of 34.28.

Considering the rigours of the previous weekends he was extremely happy with his performance.

He said: “It has been a few tough weeks with the London and Manchester marathons but it is also great to see so many high profile races returning, it makes it easier to train knowing you have an event to aim for.

“Paul and myself considered doing the Newport marathon but we resigned ourselves to giving the legs a bit of a rest. The 10k was still very competitive but I was delighted to secure a personal best over the distance.”

Moving a few hundred miles north and the Abersoch half marathon was held in wet and windy conditions with three Aber AC runners making the journey to the Ll?n peninsula.

It was another good run for Damian Sidnell finisihing in 1.36.27, a course personal best for him and ensuring second position in the over 60s category.

Helmut Hardt wasn’t very far behind in 1.44.54 with Anke Cupok completing the course in 2.33.28.

Changing from road racing to cross country, and following a strong showing in the recent Cardiff cross country races two Aber AC members have been chosen to represent West Wales in the forthcoming inter-regional competition at Brecon later this month.

Owain Schiavone will feature in the 35-44 men’s team with Maggie Collingbourn securing a place in the ladies 55+ team.

They will battle it out against teams from north, east and south Wales and all at the club wish them well.
