A mixture of sunshine and heavy rain showesr faced some 50 crews on last Sunday’s Tour of Epynt Rally organised by the Port Talbot Motor Club.
With five timed stages covering nearly 60 miles a challenging day lay ahead of the drivers and co-drivers alike on the slippery tarmac roads over the military ranges above Llandovery.
As the fifth stage of the day came to a close it would be the crew of car 10 Neil Roskell and local co-driver Marc Crisp from Pen-y-Groes that would take victory in a Ford Fiesta R5 finishing 35 seconds ahead of Huw James, Tregaron / Dafydd Evans, Lampeter MC in a Ford Escort Mk2. Roger Moran / Den Golding took third overall on the same time in a Skoda Fabia R5.
A few more locals on the results included Rob Tout from Ammanford in seventh overall in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X, and Llanddarog driver Terry Brown 13th overall - not bad considering he qualified for his bus pass many years ago and is still beating the youngsters on the stages with Angharad Williams co-driving in the Escort Mk2.
Dai Roberts co-driving for Sara Williams in a Renault Clio took 14th overall. Dewi Price / Kevin Jones took 31st overall in a Ford Escort. Paul Jenkins / Bryan Thomas finished 33rd again in a Ford Escort.
