The Ceredigion coast will retain its all-weather lifeboat after the RNLI announced it is to replace New Quay’s vessel.

This follows a five-year campaign by local members who fought plans to downgrade the lifeboat station’s vessel to an inshore boat.

RNLI chiefs have announced this morning that a review held earlier this year into the Cardigan Bay coastline concluded that an all-weather lifeboat between Fishguard and Barmouth was needed and a new 25-knot Shannon class lifeboat will replace the ageing 17-knot Mersey class boat currently housed in New Quay’s boathouse.
