FIREFIGHTERS have been tackling a forestry fire in the Teifi Valley since Sunday which has already affected around 200 hectares of land.

Fire crews from Llandysul, Newcastle Emlyn and Carmarthen were called to a forestry fire near Rhos, Llandysul at 8.57pm on Sunday, 31 May.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service are still in attendance and say approximately 200 hectares of land has been affected by the fire.

A helicopter was deployed to assist the firefighting effort yesterday.

The incident is currently ongoing.

Plumes of smoke from the blaze could be seen for miles around as dry grass and woodland led to the spread of the fire.

The Roman Road in Rhos was closed as a result of the fire, with Newcastle Emlyn Neighbourhood Policing Team tweeting: “The Roman Road is temporary closed due to a forest fire re-igniting. Please avoid the area.”
