POLICE are probing a car fire in Aberaeron which officers believe was the result of arson.

The fire broke out shortly after 11pm on Wednesday night, 13 June, in a vehicle parked in Bryn Road in the town centre.

Onlookers say flames took hold of the car very quickly and spread to nearby fencing.

Fire crews were called to the street, which runs alongside Aberaeron Hospital, at 11.11pm and were on the scene for almost 90 minutes. There were no injuries.

A spokeswoman for Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “Fire crews from Aberaeron and New Quay attended a fire on Bryn Road in Aberaeron on Wednesday night. One car was well alight and the fire spread to nearby fencing. Crews used one hose-reel jet, one breathing apparatus, a thermal-imaging camera and small gear at the scene.”

A spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed that it is being treated as “suspicious”.

They are appealing to people who may have seen anything suspicious to contact them by calling 101, quoting reference 427 of 13 June.
