POLICE are investigating after a roundabout landmark near Tremadog was vandalised with graffiti.

The large buoy, which represents the town’s close association with the sea, was sprayed with graffiti on Wednesday, 7 September, around 5pm.

Cllr Alwyn Gruffydd, who represents Tremadog on Gwynedd Council, said he was now concerned it would distract drivers using the roundabout and lead to an accident.

He said: “Well what has been sprayed on the buoy is certainly no Banksy!

“My only hope is that it doesn’t distract those using the roundabout and causes an accident.

“Steps now need to be made to have it removed as it has the potential to be very dangerous.”

Porthmadog Town Council has the responsibility of removing the graffiti which they are currently taking steps to carry out.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the incident and anyone who has any information is asked to call 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 quoting reference U136243.
