A VALENTINE’S day tragedy was avoided after fire alarms woke a couple before a blaze ripped through their property.
Fire officers are reminding residents of the importance of smoke alarms and the dangers of electrical fires after a couple were alerted to a fire in their Friog home in the early hours of Wednesday, 14 February.
Firefighters used one main jet, two hose reel jets, two sets of breathing apparatus and a thermal imaging camera to tackle the fire.
The occupants were asleep when the fire broke out, but were awoken by the sound of the smoke alarms activating.
The fire originated in a bedroom of the property and caused substantial fire damage to half of the property.
The cause of the fire is thought to be electrical, involving an electrical heat mat.
