Madam,

On Friday evening, 16 October, we were just getting ready to settle down for a couple of hours viewing, when all the lights and power went off in our house in Llwyn View, Dolgellau. It was 8.45pm.

A few minutes later I went outside and found that the other 13 homes in Llwyn View were in darkness too, and after a while flickering candles could be seen in some windows. I very rarely have an early night, but there wasn’t much option. I completed a couple of Sudokus by the light of a torch and soon afterwards fell asleep.

When we awoke, we heard the sound of a generator, and on speaking to one of the many men working in the road, we discovered the fault had been reported at 10.20pm and a team had left Tywyn and come straight across to Dolgellau. About a dozen men had worked all night through trying to find the fault and, having not done so, they were in the process of fixing each home up to a generator.

Soon after 9am we were sipping a very welcome cup of tea. Those same men worked throughout the day until, eventually, they located the fault under a neighbour’s patio. Having dug down several feet, they were able to restore the supply to Llwyn View before dark on Saturday.

We are so often throwing brickbats at the energy companies but, on this occasion, S P Energy were really impressive in their care for us all.

We are all very grateful for their hard work and persistence and feel we want to express our gratitude and to say a big thank you to each of them.

Barry and Patti Partridge, Llwyn View, Dolgellau.
