WORK to re-lay the road surface on a main shopping thoroughfare in Aberystwyth town centre is expected to last until early May.
Contractors arrived on site earlier this month and began ripping up the surface of Terrace Road from the corner of Portland Street to the corner of North Parade.
The road will remain closed over the busy Easter bank holiday weekend, with the work to reconstruct the highway expected to continue until 11 May.
Ceredigion County Council said the “blockwork paving surface on Terrace Road between Bath Street and North Parade has been deteriorating”, and the area was “in need of remedial works”.
“The current surface, concrete block-sets, are no longer deemed fit for purpose, resulting in disproportionate maintenance costs being incurred, especially in relation to the concrete channels along this length,” the council told the Cambrian News.
“The existing blockwork paving on the road surface and loading bays is being removed and the road will be resurfaced with a tarmacadam finished surface.
“This type of construction being more suitable and longer lasting which will reduce maintenance liabilities at the location.”
