Madam,
Following the two fatal crashes last month, at Aberystwyth and Ffostrasol, I ask – as a former police officer – for action over road safety.
In Aberystwyth we probably have to negotiate the worst roundabouts in the country. At Morrisons roundabout you have five junctions, unmarked lanes, risking pedestrians crossing, and have too many drivers taking risks with manoeuvres.
The ‘magic’ roundabout in Aberystwyth at the junction of Alexandra Road, Park Avenue, Mill Street and Chalybeate Street, drivers must hate pedestrian crossings with traffic lights.
The Mill Street development has increased the danger to pedestrians who I have seen between cars. Few drivers stop to give way, they do not have to.
In Aberystwyth and Aberaeron, which I frequent, who has priority on these busy town roads, drivers or pedestrians?
Who has priority on pavements?
Pedestrians should have no obstructions on the pavements, vehicles should not park on them, cyclists should not ride on them.
Why, oh why, is there a cyclist route designated between Marks & Spencer and the car park to Aberystwyth Town football club in Park Avenue?
With the main A and B, why is it only the road from Synod Inn that, in my lifetime, has been improved?
Do we have a road safety officer?
It is time that the Westminster Government, Welsh Assembly, Ceredigion County Council and the Chief Constable of Dyfed-Powys negotiate to make Ceredigion safer for drivers and pedestrians.
The, lighting at night is disgraceful in built-up areas.
Where does the buck stop?
People’s lives are in your hands.
Yours etc, D A Thomas, Llwyn yr Eos, Penparcau, Aberystwyth.
