A FORMER Llanbedr Airfield firefighter is cycling from the Welsh capital to Spain despite “severe” arthritis in one of his ankles.

Andrew Parry, 45, who lived in Harlech all his life until he moved away 11 years ago for work, is raising money for Velindre Cancer Centre, a charity which delivers anti-cancer treatment in Wales to improve cancer survival rates.

Andrew will start at Cardiff Airport where he currently works as a firefighter – and cycle across Wales, England and France before overcoming the brutal Pyrenees mountain range and heading over the Spanish border to Barcelona on the Mediterranean coast.

His plight will not end there as Andrew will then continue cycling to the Spanish port of Santander amassing an incredible 1,500 miles.

Andrew will began his challenge at the end of May and he expects it to take approximately three weeks.
