THE LAST meeting was the AGM, held for the last time in the Parlwr Mawr at The Dragon Theatre because, starting in January, the Arts Room will be the venue.Mari O’Rourke, the president, opened the meeting followed by the singing of Meirion accompanied by Blodwen on the piano.The members were saddened to hear that Daphne Dix has died.She had many friends in Barmouth and will be remembered for being great fun to be with and her contribution to the country dancing. A minute’s silence was held in her memory.Mari congratulated Janet and Christine for coming first and second respectively in the recent scrabble competition and commented on how proud members should be that the group has been awarded so many prizes in competitions this year. The minutes and county newsletter were read by Val, the secretary, followed by a summary of the financial report by treasurer Rose. Mari thanked Val and Rose for all their hard work during a very successful and busy year. The members have enjoyed a varied year of speakers thanks to Val who has also been busy organising next year’s programme.There was an assorted and diverse calendar of sporting events this year in which the group took part. Pam very proudly said that the ladies had been very successful having a wonderful year winning many competitions. Janet was very pleased to report that the beautiful, imaginative and fabulous handicrafts not surprisingly, did exceptionally well at the county show and the ladies proudly received many prizes. The table was groaning under the weight of all the trophies! Vicky spoke about the ladies who dine out together, the different restaurants visited and the meals that had been thoroughly enjoyed by all who went.Mari then gave her president’s report. She is stepping down as president so nominations were taken for a replacement. The new president and committee were chosen and will begin their term of office in January 2016.Thanks were given to Gill, Pauline and Lorraine for their delicious cakes. Geraldine had the winning ticket for the raffle and Val for the flowers. Mari won the com-petition for a handmade Christmas stocking.The next time the ladies meet is at the Christmas dinner at the Min y Môr hotel.The regular monthly meetings begin again in January so if you are interested, come along. Meetings are at 7pm on the last Wednesday of the month.

Christmas Fair

THIS YEAR’S fair will be held on Thursday, 17 December, at 3pm at Ysgol y Traeth. There will be a Santa’s grotto, craft stalls, tombola, raffle and refreshments available. All are welcome and funds raised go to help the school.

Party

THE ROAB club will be hosting a party for adults in residential or supported living. It will be from 3pm till 5pm on Wednesday, 16 December. Those attending are asked to take a food contribution along. More details are available from Rita on 07779 259076.

Christmas social evening

MEMBERS of Mawddach Ma-sons, their guests and friends enjoyed an excellent Christmas social evening at the Min y Môr hotel on Saturday, 5 December. A sumptuous three-course meal, including a carvery, was enjoyed before professional entertainment from Just Denis began. Denis is an excellent musician and singer who thoroughly entertained all present. A large table of prizes was raffled and a guess the doll’s name added to the fun. The staff at the Min y Môr did an excellent job in ensuring that everyone had a fun evening.
