WI

THE last meeting of 2015 was the Christmas party at the Min y Môr.As the ladies entered the dining room, members of the committee greeted them and gave them each a glass of sparkling wine.Mari, the retiring president, began the evening with a toast to the WI on celebrating its cente-nary. After announcing some sad news, Mari gave birthday wishes to everyone who will be having a birthday before the next meeting. As usual the Min y Môr provided a delicious meal. The young staff who waited on table were very efficient, smart and smiling and contributed to the enjoyment of the meal. After the meal the raffle was drawn, featuring four hampers of food and other small prizes. Mari was then presented with a gift for accumulating the most points over the year for the monthly competition. Then followed the hilarious entertainment during which the Barmouth WI Queen of the Century was chosen. Six glamorous ladies were the contestants and after elegantly promenading in front of the judges they were quizzed by chair of the judges Rose (wearing the most beautiful hat), Janet, Anne and Pam.It was a very difficult decision for the judges as many of the answers were hilarious and sometimes thought-provoking, but after much deliberation Val Vine was chosen.Mari presented her with a sash and a crowned her with a ‘gold’ crown. Thanks were given to the waiters and waitress; a few photographs were taken for posterity and then the evening ended with everyone joining in singing Christmas Carols. The occasion was a huge success and thoroughly enjoyed by all. If you would like to join the WI in 2016, come along to the Arts Room at the Dragon Theatre on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 7pm.
