A YOUNG boy who was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer has raised over £3,000 by completing a charity bike ride with his brother.
Evan Wells, who lives in Llanrhystud with mum Johanna, dad John and brother Corey, was just 18-month-old when he was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare soft tissue cancer.
The diagnosis came just days after his mum underwent a hysterectomy to treat her own cancer.
Thankfully, both have now recovered and, whilst Johanna went on to start this year’s Race For Life in Aberystwyth, Evan and Corey have been busy raising money for LATCH.
Evan, now seven, and Corey, 10, rode their bikes from Nant yr Arian to Machynlleth raising £3,064 for the Welsh Children’s Cancer Charity.
Commenting on their success, Johanna said: “John and I are incredibly proud of them both.
“They came up with the idea and when they arrived in Machynlleth there were people watching and cheering and it was quite emotional.
“It was a great achievement for both of them, especially Evan, as he has had to deal with sore joints in his feet as a side effect of his chemotherapy, but he never complains and just tackles everything head on."
