DETAILS have been released about one of the biggest events in Aberystwyth’s social calendar.

Aberystwyth Carnival will take place at the harbour end of the promenade on Saturday, 23 July, from 11am until midnight.

Pedestrian judging begins at midday and the judging of floats starts at 1pm.

The float parade itself starts at 2pm from South Marine Terrace. Prize-giving for the best entrants will be between 4pm and 5pm.

Spectators will be treated to live entertainment on the stage all day from 11am until midnight.

There will also be a wide range of other activities to enjoy including stalls, bouncy castle, Punch and Judy, face painting, children’s rides and food and drink stalls.

The selection of the carnival queen and her attendants will be held on Saturday, 23 April, when there will be a disco and refreshments at the Aberystwyth Town Council office in Baker Street between 2pm and 4pm.

A carnival window display competition with the theme Dragons is also being held in July, with judging taking place the week before the carnival.

Wendy Morris, one of the carnival organisers, said: “With the fourth year of the Aberystwyth Town Carnival back up and running again this year, we are hoping for the same success or even better.

“We as a volunteering committee, are always pleased to see so many people coming out to support this great day. A huge amount of time and effort goes into making sure that the local people and visitors alike have a memorable, safe day."
