BUILDERS and developers in the area have been recognised for their commitment to quality construction within the county.

To gain recognition, each project had to demonstrate high-quality workmanship, close liaison with the developer and the building control surveyor in relation to the site inspection process, and compliance with the building regulations, together with overall customer satisfaction. Nominations, collected throughout the year, went through a judging process where the winners of a variety of projects were agreed.

Local winners were Luke Worgan, Borth, for Best Extension or Alterations to an Existing Home at Pantglas, Cwmsymlog; Ian Davies, Cardigan, in the Best Local Craftsman category; Andrew Lewis, Furnace, Machynlleth, for the Best Change of Use or Conversion at Ty Hen, Talybont; Huw Phillips, Cartrefi Deri Homes Ltd, Cardigan for the Best Individual Home, 2 Hafod y Môr, Tresaith; Owen Egan, Capel Dewi, Aberystwyth, for the Best Small Housing Development, Pengeulan, Capel Bangor; WRW Construction, Llanelli, for the Best Public Service Building, Aberystwyth Fire Station; Willmott Dixon Construction Ltd, Cardiff, for Best Educational Building, Ysgol Bro Teifi, Llandysul.

Local winners went forward to the South Wales, Local Authority Building Control ‘Building Excellence Awards’ which was held on 21 April, hosted by television and radio personality Roy Noble OBE. The event was attended by over 400 construction professionals from throughout South Wales.

Two of Ceredigion’s nominees were awarded and presented with their ‘Highly Commended’ certificates; these were Willmott Dixon, Cardiff and Ian Davies from Cardigan. Huw Phillips (Cartrefi Deri Homes) was presented with the Winners accolade for his work on the construction of a new dwelling in Tresaith.
