MEMBERS of the Dwyfor Meirionnydd Labour Party are hoping they can get a ‘world class’ service to match the UK’s “finest” train line.

The Cambrian Coast Line was recently named as one of the “ten most epic train journeys in the world”.

In light of the news, Quentin Deakin, media officer for the local Labour party and prospective county council candidate for Tywyn, has called for an improved service for the railway.

“New franchises will shortly be issued for train services in Wales,” he said.

“We believe that the Cambrian Coast Service between Machynlleth and Pwllheli on winter and spring Sundays is totally unacceptable.

“One train in each direction during the whole day does not meet the needs of local residents and visitors to the area.

“We therefore call upon the train operators to maintain the summer Sunday service, of three trains per day in each direction, throughout the whole year.

“We also ask that the Welsh Assembly incorporate this as a minimum level of service when the new franchise is issued.”
