CALLS are being made for Porthmadog market to change its trading day to help bring a boost to the town.

Porthmadog market is held on a Friday, but a town councillor says if it was moved to a different day it could attract more traders and help bring more people into the town.

There is also concern as to where the market is situated on Heol y Parc car park and a suggestion has now been made for it to be moved into the park.

Cllr Angharad ab Iorwerth said: “Last month I raised my concerns over where the market is currently held. I am worried that the public, mainly children, are not able to cross the road properly as their views are blocked by the cabins, I believe this is an accident waiting to happen.

“I would like to look into the possibility of moving the market into the park which would also free up the car park spaces.

“This would make it safer for market traders and the general public.

“I also have concerns that the market is not being monitored correctly, the council need to check who is trading there legitimately and who isn’t, and there have been questions about certain traders in the past.

“A few things really need to be looked into by the council, most importantly they need to change the day as I think it would attract more traders."
