AN Aberystwyth company has applied for an environmental permit to build a biomass boiler at its Glanyrafon Industrial Estate base.
Aber Heat & Power Ltd wants to build the biomass boiler to use waste wood as a way of providing heat and hot water for other buildings at the company’s compound.
The company said it would cut the amount of shredded wood that is transported out of the county and save articulated lorry trips.
The biomass boiler would be based at the CB Environmental premises at Glanyrafon and would comply with directives and meet all health standards, according to the company.
A statement said: “With changes in legislation requiring all wood from waste facilities being classed as Grade C (unless it can be absolutely proven to be Grade A) then any burning of waste wood must be done in compliance with the Waste Incineration Directive.
“The Waste Incineration Directive sets out the standards and methodologies that are required to minimise the impact of emissions to air, soil, surface and ground water through the incineration and co-incineration of waste and which could result in harm to the environment and human health.
“Aber Heath & Power Ltd aim to address these issues locally by taking the best available technology approach through the installation of a state-of-the-art combined heat and power biomass boiler at CB Environmental Ltd’s waste transfer station on the Glanyrafon Industrial Estate."
