MACHYNLLETH Town Council’s decision to take over the running of the café at Y Plas - leaving the current operators out of business – has come under fire.
Bwyty y Plas closed yesterday after Machynlleth Town Council decided it wanted to take over the running of the café from the current operators.
But that decision has been criticised by one visitor who said she had been left “shocked”.
Vered Rutter, who learnt about the change when visiting Y Plas, said the café had been very successful and she doubted that any takeover by the town council would better those standards.
Mrs Rutter said: “The café in the Plas in Machynlleth is an amazingly friendly place, which attracts a huge amount of people from the area to enjoy lovely lunches, as well as very good teas, coffees and cakes. Pre-Christmas dinners were always a hit.
“I was shocked to hear that they are closing down. When a place of business is successful and brings money and visitors to your town, why not encourage it?
“Why try and damage the entrepreneur spirit of the people running the place?"
