A DISTRICT judge will rule in August on whether Borth Wild Animal Kingdom can continue to keep ‘dangerous animals’ as part of its licence.

Tracy and Dean Tweedy, the owners of the zoo, have appealed against one condition imposed by Ceredigion County Council on whether the zoo can continue to keep Category A animals, which include big cats, crocodiles and alligators.

Council licensing officers had imposed 120 conditions on the zoo with all but the condition against keeping Category A animals accepted by the couple who have been carrying out work to meet those requirements.

However, no progress has been made in reaching an agreement over the dangerous animal condition with a full appeal hearing now set for Thursday and Friday, 2 and 3 August, with veterinary experts scheduled to give evidence.

The conditions were imposed after an incident which saw a lynx shot dead by a marksman appointed by the council after escaping from the zoo, while a second lynx died after being caught in a catchpole while an employee was moving the lynx.
