THE Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways are running their first trains of the year today, as coronavirus regulations continue to ease.

The first service - a ’Woodlander Wanderer’ service - departed from Porthmadog Harbour this morning.

Speaking yesterday, a spokesperson for the railways said: “At 11.05am on Tuesday, 27 April the first train of the year will steam out of Porthmadog Harbour Station with a Woodland Wanderer service to Tan-y-Bwlch.

“The Woodland Wanderer is just one of four journey options for Spring 2021, which will also include the ‘Mountain Prince’ and ‘Glaslyn Venturer’ services from Porthmadog and the ‘Gelert Explorer’ service from Caernarfon.”

Bookings are now open for services between 27 April and 23 July.

The spokesperson added: “This seating bay is cleaned before travel and is then yours for the duration of your visit. Booking in advance is strongly advised as we launch our new on-line booking system.

“Full details on all of our new journey options and how to book can be found on the railway website – www.festrail.co.uk/trains/

“Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to being able to welcome you back to our railways.”

All ongoing services and events will be subject to any further changes in Welsh Government policy in response to the coronavirus situation.
