Aldi could be set to push ahead with plans to build a new supermarket in Aberystwyth - no matter the result of a delayed public inquiry into the company’s plans, a report sent to planning inspectors suggests.
A public inquiry to look into plans by Aldi to build a new supermarket on the derelict site of the former Kwik Save and Cambrian Garage along Park Avenue, has faced delay after delay, and was adjourned again on Monday.
But planning reports now indicate that even if the plans are refused, Aldi could still go ahead with building a store, by using permission granted four years ago, in a scheme that was since scrapped by the company after a deal for a planned hotel on the site fell through.
The new store would create 40 jobs and see a long-standing empty site used.
