HIGH-TECH touchscreen tourism kiosk signs have been erected in Aberystwyth.
Advancing Aberystwyth Ar y Blaen, the group behind the Business Improvement District (BID) in Aberystwyth, has installed three 55-inch digital touchscreen tourism kiosks in the town as part of its work to promote the town and its businesses.
The group was given permission earlier this year to put the high-tech signs made of galvanised steel and laminated safety glass on Owain Glyndwr Square, at the front of Aberystwyth station on Alexandra Road, and opposite numbers 64 and 66 Terrace Road by the former Kings Hall.
The high-tech screens replaced traditional blue wooden ones, which were torn down by council workmen last month.
The Cambrian News reported last month how the old noticeboards were targets for vandalism, and calls for them to be cleaned. The old noticeboards have now been replaced by the modern signs, which will contain interactive what’s on and attractions guide for tourists, as well as a business directory.
Advancing Aberystwyth said it had consulted with its 411 business members which pay the BID levy, as well as local ward members and Aberystwyth Town Council on the proposals, but the signs, made of galvanised steel and laminated safety glass, were initially criticised by local councillors.
