HOPES that a former college could be turned into a new hotel have been dashed following “a lack of action” by Adult Learning Wales, according to an outraged community group.

The news that the bid had failed broke shortly after a community action group learned that 30 jobs in Coleg Harlech could be lost.

According to Harlech in Action, an umbrella group dedicated to improving their local town, the opportunity of Asian firm China Consulting developing the Coleg Harlech site as a hotel is “likely to have been lost” because Adult Learning Wales (ALW) did not take the opportunity seriously and react in time.

Adult Learning Wales has refused to comment on the community group’s claims.

In February this year, Harlech was rocked when the Cambrian News reported that the adult learning site, established over 90 years ago, was to close at the end of the academic year.

It was hoped a quick transition incorporating new tourist facilities would transpire but this has not been the case so far.
