THE BRIGANDS Inn has the best breakfast in Britain, according to judges.

The Mallwyd pub was crowned as having the best breakfast in the land after a highly competitive cook-off and awards ceremony were held in West London.

The National Breakfast Awards, which took place at Westminster Kingsway College on 30 January, saw 14 finalists from four different sectors – cafés, restaurants, pubs and hotels – going head-to-head across three challenging rounds.

Kevin Geyton from The Brigands Inn claimed the top title of National Breakfast of the Year after his signature dish – poached, organic, locally-sourced rare-bred eggs on toasted homemade sourdough, topped with crushed avocado, bacon, black pudding, chorizo and Welsh rarebit – was the unanimous choice of the panel of expert judges.

Along with the prestigious title, he also walked away with £1,000.

Mr Geyton said: “I’ve never won anything before in my life, so this is an absolute joy! It’s amazing to cook alongside and meet all the other contestants. You get to see how creative they are and you can incorporate some of their ideas into your own dishes. Everyone has been so friendly.

“The people in north Wales will be thrilled. We’re not from the area but we have fallen in love with it. I’m sure winning this award will do our business well.”
