A LACK of working cash points in Blaenau Ffestiniog has left residents feeling “ashamed”.
Angela Hughes, who was born and raised in Blaenau Ffestiniog, was aghast over the weekend when a young family asked her for directions to the nearest working ATM and she was forced to send them on a 20-minute drive to Porthmadog as all the cash points in Blaenau Ffestiniog were either inaccessible or out of order.
There are currently three cash points in the town, four if the one at the imminently-closing Post Office is included, but two are located inside stores and therefore not accessible outside of working hours.
The final cash point is subsequently in constant use and is frequently out of money.
“Oh it was awful, as a local I have to say I felt ashamed,” Angela said.
“It’s tragic, with all the new activities in and around Blaenau. We’ve never had more visitors in the town, but now that they’re here and willing to spend, they can’t actually get any money out."
