MARKS & Spencer have said that the Aberystwyth store set for the Mill Street development will open in the spring despite plans by the company to cut shop numbers nationally.
The new M&S store will open at Mill Street in spring next year, alongside the Tesco store which opened last month.
While the company withdrew from a major project in Oldham last week, M&S remains committed to Aberystwyth and are “excited” about coming to the town, a spokesperson said.
The company confirmed the new store will have a full clothing range alongside a food hall and a café.
Chris Bentley, store manager at M&S Aberystwyth, said: “We’re really excited to be bringing our new M&S store to Aberystwyth in spring next year.
“We’ve received a lot of positive feedback from the community and it’s great to be able to offer our customers the chance to shop more locally.
“The main build is now complete and we’re busy transforming the interior into a fantastic-looking M&S store. I can’t wait to welcome our first customers in just a few months.”
The company said that jobs in the store are currently being advertised, but did not say how many jobs were being created at the site.
