DEVELOPERS say they are “working tirelessly” to get a £8m Porthmadog retail scheme off the ground.
A new complex in an industrial estate in Porthmadog will create more than 100 jobs if it is built.
Two new retail stores, a 60-bedroom hotel with an attached cafe/restaurant and a 174-space car park are planned for Porthmadog’s Penamser Industrial Estate, bringing the jobs to the area.
A garden centre is also included in the plans.
The project, which is estimated to cost £8m, is expected to create 40 jobs during its two-year construction phase and up to 75 jobs when the complex is up and running.
It is not known which businesses will occupy the stores, although Premier Inn is rumoured to be the company opening the hotel.
According to an Economic Benefits Summary, the new 60-bedroom hotel is expected to attract 14,900 extra visitors to the area every year, pumping an extra £550,000 into the local economy.
When asked for an update on the project, developer Morbaine held their cards close to their chest.
“Unfortunately, in terms of the Penamser Road site I have nothing concrete to report at this stage given that we are still in negotiations with prospective occupiers for the scheme,” said Keith Nutter, planning director of Morbaine.
“At this stage we are working tirelessly to get the scheme off the ground.”
