A not-for-profit company has been set up to take the reins of Lampeter People’s Market – which has been rebranded Marchnad Llambed.
The market has been running on the second and fourth Saturday mornings of each month since 2012, ensuring that local producers of food, crafts and gifts have the opportunity to establish successful local businesses, and local residents and visitors can buy quality local food and crafts in a vibrant and sociable outdoor market setting in the heart of Lampeter.
A new not-for-profit company, Marchnad Llambed Lampeter Market CIC, has now been formed to run the market by the same team from Victoria Hall that successfully gained RCDF funding for the hall in 2018.
At the start of lockdown in March 2020 the market moved from its base in Lampeter’s Victoria Hall and relocated outside on the Lampeter campus of University of Wales Trinity Saint David.
The university’s support, and the help of the local branch of Unite the Union which donated gazebos to help protect traders from hot sun or rain, has meant that the market has been able to continue trading consistently all through lockdown and beyond.
Market manager Dinah Mulholland said: “During lockdown many customers were relieved to be shopping outside as it felt so much safer.
“And through being outside, and in the centre of Lampeter, we have attracted many new customers and traders to the market.
“As a result the market now has on average 20 stalls and the range of local produce and crafts has expanded.
“It’s a great reflection of the wealth and abundance of local produce and talent in the West Wales area.
“We also have a wonderful café - The Shack on Wheels - serving Teifi coffee, breakfast rolls, brunch snacks and ice cream, and live music from local musicians.
“It’s so friendly and welcoming; everyone comments on the wonderful atmosphere at Lampeter Market!”
The next market will be held on 28 August, from 10am to 1pm, on the university campus on College Street.
Marchnad Llambed - Lampeter Market is always interested in hearing from new traders. They can be contacted via their Facebook page or [email protected]
