THE WELSH Government claims its plan for managing Wales’ coastline and sea could help boost Ceredigion’s economy.
A consultation into the Welsh National Marine Plan is currently ongoing. The draft plan outlines how developments, including tourism, renewable energy and ports on the coast, could help guide developments to boost the economy and job creation in coastal areas including Ceredigion.
One suggestion is that developing Aberystwyth harbour to boost sailing and recreational boat use would help tourism.
The plan highlights how developments in a number of areas could help boost coastal areas and the marine landscape of Wales, but also suggests a string of requirements that would need to be met before development could be supported.
It claims that coastal communities could benefit from the creation of new jobs and increased tourism if the right kind of development is supported and approved with the plan warning that any development must be sustainable and suitable.
One proposal that the plan identifies as having potential to improve tourism and create jobs is development of Aberystwyth harbour which has already been identified as a potential scheme that could attract grant funding.
Elin Jones AM said anything that could help Ceredigion businesses and the county’s economy would be welcomed and urged people to respond to the consultation.
