FED-UP residents of New Quay are still waiting to hear when their new post office can open – a month after the closure of its predecessor.

Formerly based in Post and Toast, the town’s post office closed on 29 July and is re-locating to The Corner Shop.

Post Office bosses initially pledged it would re-open on 1 August – but four weeks later BT has not installed a phone line and villagers are still awaiting an official opening date.

“It’s completely stupid and ridiculous,” disgruntled Pauline Glover-Nash, of Cross Inn, told the Cambrian News. “Holidaymakers are horrified to find they cannot use such facilities.

“My husband and I are in our late seventies and we just don’t want to take a bus to use the post office in Aberaeron

“Having already lost the post office in Cross Inn to lose another PO facility, all be it not for ever, is a debacle. New Quay is a busy and popular resort and people who live here and visit expect the normal facilities a holiday town should deliver.

“BT have known for a number of months that Post and Toast was closing and that the post office was to re-locate to The Corner Shop.

“A free bus service is offered twice a week to Aberaeron at a time which doesn’t suit everyone. Why should people have to go by bus to use a facility which should be local?”
