A PUBLIC meeting about the controversial relocation of Aberystwyth Post Office has been labelled “poorly organised” and a “box-ticking exercise”.

The meeting, which was held at the Morlan Centre, gave residents the opportunity to tell Post Office chiefs their thoughts on plans to move the Crown Post Office from Great Darkgate Street to WH Smith on Terrace Road.

But the Post Office, which hopes to complete the move by November despite a 3,000-signature petition against the relocation, has been accused of not taking the meeting seriously after claiming security fears meant they could not circulate their plans for WH Smith.

Cllr Ceredig Davies, who represents Aberystwyth Central ward and attended the meeting, said: “I was very disappointed with the Post Office because the expectations were for them to respond to a consultation process on what was going to be in the new WH Smith.

“My expectation was that they would have large plans for what the layout was going to be inside WH Smith because of concerns over room, but all they showed was a small plan on an A4 sheet of paper, which they then took back.

“They refused to hand them out for security reasons, which is ridiculous because they are only going to replicate what they have done in other WH Smith branches.
