The repercussions of Storm Ciara have been felt across Meirionnydd, as one pub was forced to close as a result of flood damage, and reports of people in Tywyn being conned into paying for unnecessary roof repairs.
Storm Ciara caused wide-scale damage and disruption across Meirionnydd, bringing with it strong winds, flooding and, later, snow.
The George III pub in Penmaenpool flooded on Sunday, 9 February. Hotel guests had to be relocated and the pub closed its doors to the public. It has since reopened.
And police issued a warning about a door-to-door scam in Tywyn involving cold-calling about roof repairs after the storm and over charging for unnecessary repairs.
Dolgellau town councillor Ywain Myfyr, who represents Penmaenpool, said he was “saddened” to understand the George the Third pub in the village was affected by floodwaters caused by Storm Ciara.
“I sincerely hope that the damage was not too severe as Robinson’s brewery, the owners, have refurbished the hotel recently,” he said.
“I understand that the last time the hotel was flooded was 25 years ago.”
