The Glengower Hotel in Aberystwyth has been named pub of the year by the Bae Ceredigion branch of the Campaign for Real Ale.

CAMRA committee members visited the Glengower and the three other short-listed pubs at different times and scored each of them against the same set of criteria.

Tristan Robinson, chairman of Bae Ceredigion CAMRA, said: “The quality of the beer and real cider is the most important single factor in judging a pub for a CAMRA award.

“The Glengower’s landlord, Ian Richards, has championed real ale over the last few years and ensured that the range and quality has improved. This is the first time we have given our pub of the year award to the Glengower and it recognises the effort and enthusiasm demonstrated by Ian and his team.”

Judges noted that the Glengower always offers beers from Welsh breweries and that a separate cider bar has just been opened to offer a better choice of real cider and perry.
