A LLANGEITHO couple have been named joint regional finalists for the second time in the annual Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.

Guitarist Phil Fernando and his wife Rosemary were first named regional finalists in 2015 but are now set to follow in the footsteps of last year’s award winner, Love Island star Alex Miller, with the hopes of winning the title and a £10,000 prize.

To mark their achievement so far, the couple, who are finalists in the over 60s category, were invited to visit their local Specsavers store in Aberystwyth, where they each received a congratulatory bottle of champagne, a certificate and a £125 glasses voucher.

Rosemary said: “We were delighted when we got the call to say we were regional finalists again, as it was such fun a few years ago.

Phil added: “We both love wearing our frames for different reasons.

“I’m a performer inspired by Ray Charles so I love wearing mine on stage, whereas my wife enjoys wearing frames as she’s a big Joan Collins fan.”

Graham Park, store director at Specsavers Aberystwyth, said: “Each year, the competition has thousands of entries so for Philip and Rosemary to be named as joint regional finalists for a second time is really quite an achievement.

“On behalf of the whole team at Specsavers Aberystwyth, we wish them the best of luck in the competition and we’re backing both of them all the way to the final.”
