A “QUINTESSENTIAL” Meirionnydd inn has been recognised as the best pub in Wales.

The Penhelig Arms, Aberdyfi, has been announced as the winner of the AA Pub of the Year for Wales in 2016.

The winners of the AA Pub of the Year, introduced in 2001, stand out as “truly excellent all-round” pubs or inns.

Phil Thomas, general manager at the Penhelig Arms was thrilled with the accolade. He said: “At Penhelig, we’re absolutely delighted to have received this Pub of the Year award from the AA which will sit proudly along side the award of Five Star Inn and our Rosette for the restaurant.

“Over the last three years, our front of house team have worked hard to deliver a programme of ‘consummate hospitality’ leading to our guests receiving the level of service and friendly professionalism they would expect from such a leading light of Welsh hospitality.”
