STORE 21 will continue to trade at its Aberystwyth town centre store “in the short term” despite holding a closing-down sale for several months.

The future of the store was cast in doubt at Christmas after plans were revealed to demolish the building at Rheidol Retail Park and construct a two-storey building which would house shops, cafés and restaurants.

Leeds-based developers Bilsdale Properties Ltd said the plans would include 2,392m2 of floor space to sit generally on the same footprint as the current building.

Plans also included a tower, with the promise that the building would be built using materials and in a way which would reflect the Grade II-listed old railway station building next door.

And after months of advertising a ‘closing-down sale’, Store 21 has placed an announcement in the shop windows stating the company has extended its lease on the building.

The notice states: “Store 21 is pleased to announce that it has been able to extend the lease on this unit.

“This means that in the short term, we will continue to trade in the Rheidol Retail Park.”
