ABERYSTWYTH shoppers looking forward to Marks & Spencer opening in the town will have to wait until next year, the Cambrian News can reveal.

People had been expecting both Marks & Spencer and Tesco to open for business on the old Mill Street car park in October.

But the developers have told the Cambrian News that Tesco will open in November or December and Marks and Spencer will not open until spring next year.

However, suggestions that the scheme (pictured) has seen delays have been denied by developers Chelverton Deeley Freed who have insisted that it was always the plan for the Tesco store to open before Christmas and M&S at a later date.

The multi-storey car park, which Ceredigion County Council has said is an integral part of the development, will also be ready before Christmas, and is expected to be open at the same time as the Tesco store.

The decision to have the M&S store opening next year is to allow the store to open during a period considered to be best for sales.

A Chelverton spokesperson said: “It was always expected that M&S would open later as their fit-out is longer.”
