There are hopes that Cardigan’s tourist information centre will be relocated to Cardigan Castle after Ceredigion County Council decided to axe the existing outlet at Theatr Mwldan last week.
Cabinet members have agreed to have further discussions with Cardigan Castle with a view to the castle providing visitor information in the future.
Cllr Rhodri Evans, the Cabinet member responsible for economy and regeneration, insisted that supporting tourism remained a priority for the local authority.
“This decision was not taken lightly and was done after years of severe cuts to council budgets,” he said.
“We will do everything we can to make sure that there is another way that visitor information can be offered in Cardigan. This is important to support tourism in a flourishing town.
“The staff at Cardigan Tourist Information Centre have assisted many thousands of visitors, as well as tourism businesses, over the years
“I would like to thank them for their dedication and commitment to the promotion of Cardigan and Ceredigion.”
A tourist information centre has operated from Theatr Mwldan since the 1980s but in order to achieve savings, the council says it will no longer be able to provide the same level of information in Cardigan.
