Two long-standing chain stores in Aberystwyth are set to close – but new businesses are ready to move in.
Shoe Zone, which has been a staple on Great Darkgate Street for several years is to close, the Cambrian News can reveal. But Vodafone is set to open a shop in the premises.
It is also understood that Carpetright, which is based on the Parc-y-llyn Retail Park, will close within the next two months, when the current lease expires.
While the company has not officially confirmed the Aberystwyth store will shut down, it is believed that Carpetright was unable to agree a lease with the investment firm which owns the retail park.
The Cambrian News understands a new tenant has already been found for the unit, which it is believed is to be turned into a gym.
The four members of staff at Carpetright have reportedly been issued with a notice of closure, and with risk of redundancy notices.
It is not known how many staff will be affected at the Shoe Zone store, or whether Shoe Zone is looking for alternative premises in Aberystwyth.
