A PUB near Llanon has won the Campaign for Real Ale West Wales Pub of the Year 2018 award, making it one of the top three real ale pubs in Wales.

Earlier this year, members of the local CAMRA branch selected the Rhos yr Hafod, at Cross Inn, as the winner of the Bae Ceredigion CAMRA Pub of the Year competition.

The pub then went forward for judging against the regional winners from Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, and has now been declared as the west Wales winner.

Tristan Robinson, chairman of Bae Ceredigion CAMRA, said: “We gave our local pub of the year award to the Rhos yr Hafod for the first time this year and so it is a fantastic achievement for the pub to go on to win the west Wales competition.

“This latest accolade recognises the effort and enthusiasm demonstrated by landlady Elin Hywel and her family since they bought the pub a few years ago.

“It is an excellent example of a small village local in a rural location which has flourished thanks to good management and great beer.”

The Rhos yr Hafod will now go up against the winning pubs from north and south Wales in the competition for CAMRA Wales Pub of the Year.

This is the fourth consecutive year that a Ceredigion pub has been selected as CAMRA West Wales Pub of the Year.

The competition was won by the Druid Inn, Goginan in 2017; the Glengower Hotel, Aberystwyth in 2016; and Y Talbot, Tregaron in 2015.
