THE café at Machynlleth’s Y Plas has been reopened after being taken under town council control in a controversial move.

The council decided it should take over the operation of the café and following a redesign of the facility, it has now reopened under a new management team.

The café, which is being run by chef and manager Mikhael Sverdlov, who was appointed by the town council, will be open for breakfast and lunch.

Mikhael said: “My vision is to provide quality and affordable light bites and full meals in this beautiful setting.”

The town council was criticised when it agreed in 2017 to take over the operation of the café at a council meeting, with former tenants, who operated Bwyty y Plas, seeing their lease expire in November before renovation work took place.
