After a difficult time at school, Melita started attending college to study hairdressing and, after just a few weeks in her new environment, she was certain that she was on the right track.
Tutor Nia Wyn Jones helped Melita realise her potential by encouraging her to take part in competitions in and out of college.
It was following increasing success in competitions that Melita found the confidence to go to Cardiff with her mother, who is also her hair model, and her tutor Nia to compete in a hair up-do competition.
Nia said: “Melita is a very mature and conscientious girl and the standard of her work is excellent. We are very proud that she won first prize in the hairdressing competition at the Urdd Eisteddfod this year.
“She had prepared thoroughly for the theme Countries of the World, where she was expected to create a whole image including hair, make-up and costume. She did a fantastic job.”
Commenting on her experience at college, Melita said: “Starting college definitely helped me build my confidence and I feel that it has changed me for the better.
“It has helped me start my own successful eyelash business, and I’ve made lots of new friends. I cannot thank my tutors and my family enough for all their support.”
Grwp Llandrillo Menai colleges offer a wide variety of courses including different level hairdressing and beauty therapy courses.
