Electric car charging ports could one day be a possibility in Barmouth following a meeting of the town council.

Mayor Phillip Hill said: “I’ve sent off information on electric car ports, it would be good to have them as lots of other towns have them.”

Cllr Trevor Roberts added: “The cost is horrendous to have them installed, places like Bow Street were able to receive grants for theirs.

“The issue is it takes 40 minutes to charge and it’s expensive to charge.

“I say let’s have a look at it though. People won’t buy electric cars at the moment because they can’t go very far.”

The council acknowledged they would be costly, but mayor Hill said: “We may have no choice, in 20 years time it will be nearly all electric cars.”

Cllr Matthew Harris added: “It would be another example of us moving forward.”

Cllr Faith Atkins said the charge point would be easy to locate.

“There is an app to find all the charge stations, it’s really useful,” she said.
