CARDIGAN will continue to be known as ‘Jumper’ to celebrate Save the Children’s annual Christmas Jumper Day right up until Christmas Day.
Town mayor Clive Davies and fellow councillors agreed unanimously to change the town’s anglicised and Welsh names to ‘Jumper’ and ‘Siwmper’, respectively, for 10 days from 15 December.
The move meant that the 4,000 residents of the newly-named Jumper ditched their usual day-to-day dress to pop on a festive pullover; the town’s pet pooches, policemen, the local swimming team... and even a couple of sheep also got involved in the knitting action!
“Apart from raising money for a worthy cause this has really put Cardigan on the map,” said Cllr Davies. “We are doing something fun and silly for Save the Children.”
Classical singer, presenter and actress Shan Cothi also teamed up with Save the Children in Wales to knit a festive jumper for her beloved Welsh Cob, Caio.
