A LLANRHYSTUD Girl Guide is hoping to raise £1,800 after being selected to represent Wales at an international cultural exchange and volunteering trip to Italy.

Catryn Davies, 16, has already raised more than £1,000 to fund the trip and is appealing for further donations to travel to Italy this summer, where she will take part in exchanging cultural lessons with local Girl Guides and help refurbish a youth refuge.

“I am a junior guide leader in Llanrhystud and was put forward to enter the selection process out of the whole of Wales,” said Catryn. “I had to go through a weekend in Broneirion, Llandinam, where I was assessed on qualities such as teamwork, leadership and survival skills.

“I came home from there and received a letter soon after saying I had been successful, and that I was one of the 10 chosen out of 30 guides across Wales.”
