AN Aberystwyth shopkeeper was shocked when one of the UK’s most popular comedians strolled in last week.
Michael Joseph Pennington, better known as Johnny Vegas, was on a fleeting visit to Ceredigion, making an appearance in a New Quay pub and Aberaeron shop before heading up to Aberystwyth’s Coastal Vintage shop on Bridge Street.
Speaking to the Cambrian News this week, Lynda Williams, who owns Coastal Vintage with her husband John, said Vegas was “sweet and charming”.
“I was working upstairs and was told by a lady who works here that a really famous comedian had come in,” said Lynda.
“He was just casually looking around. There were no other customers around at this time and I had a chat with him.
“He was so sweet and charming. He wasn’t looking for attention and we didn’t fawn all over him, we just let him browse in peace.”
Lynda said Vegas, whose mum and children were sat outside in the car, was visiting the shop because he likes vintage clothing but struggles to find them in his size.
“We told him a little bit about the history of the building,” added Lynda.
“He was in the shop for about 15 to 20 minutes.
“He said he really likes vintage clothing but finds it hard to get it in his size.
“The lady in the photo with him, Caroline Berry, runs the vintage boutique section.
“He is such a lovely, lovely chap."
